i.e., on guns with a cross-bolt "trigger block safety button" (such as Franchi Affinity, Beretta 303, 390, 400, Winchester 1200/1300, Winchester Model 12, etc), once the hammer falls on an empty chamber, you should not be able to place the safety button back "on safe" until the hammer is recocked. Put the safety on ("safe" position) I don't think I've ever handled any semi-auto shotgun (or similar pump-action shotgun) where it's even possible to do this. Almost feels like I'm going to break something.Īnyone else see this behavior on the Affinity 3.5?Ĥ. But it doesn't feel right - I really have to jam back the bolt to cock the hammer. If the safety is on, and the hammer has been fired, and I REALLY pull on the bolt handle, the bolt will go back all the way and cock the hammer. Now turn off the safety ("fire" position) and pull the bolt back - now notice the bolt slides back nicely, and cocks the hammer normally. I can't bring it all the way back and cock the hammer.Ħ. Pull on the bolt handle and try to pull back the bolt.Īt this point, something stops the bolt. Put the safety off, in "fire" position, and press the trigger to fire the hammer.ĥ. Pull back the bolt and release it so it goes all the way forward again - effectively cocking the hammer and the gun in the ready-to-fire position.ģ. Start with an empty gun (nothing in the magazine, nothing in the chamber) - very important! Gun must be unloaded completely.Ģ.

In short - with a completely unloaded gun, the bolt forward, and a cocked hammer, press the trigger to fire the hammer, then flip the safety on and try to pull the bolt back. I'm hoping someone with a recently purchased Affinity can test this and tell me what you see. The problem is I don't actually recall trying this when I had the factory safety in, so I don't know if this is just the way it is. I just noticed something odd - but I'm not sure if this is just the way the Affinity works, or if somehow this aftermarket safety changed this behavior. I purchased an aftermarket oversized reversible safety and just replaced the factory safety (I also reversed it - I'm left handed). I recently purchased a Franchi Affinity 3.5.
